Troubleshooting this Site

Do you have the feeling (or obvious evidence) that certain elements on this website are not displaying or working as they should? Welcome to the brave new world of web-design and rapidly evolving standards, mixed in with legitimate security concerns — and a dash of poorly implemented web browsers. No pictures? Make sure your browser allows pictures. (Internet Explorer, for example, under Tools>Internet Options> Advanced, under the subhead “Multimedia Options”, lets you uncheck “show pictures” — and no pictures will be seen.  In Firefox under the Options menu, you can go to the Add-ons control window and shut down Java (not that much Java is used here, but there is some). Music links not working? Internet Explorer can lose its mind from time to time — or is just plain riddled with bugs. Try restarting. Try a right-click (control-click on a Mac) on a music link to bring up a download/open manager. If that doesn’t work, try a different browser. We prefer Firefox for several reasons:  it's open source (and therefore can be publicly inspected for nefarious code); it doesn't spy on you (that we know of, but some plug-ins might); they've taken security seriously from the get-go; they invented tabbed browsing; Firefox seems to be largely compliant with a lot of the shifting HTML and CSS standards, and is usually fast to load pages. Things have gotten broken a time or two, but patched versions then came out quickly. This site uses almost no flash or java, but there is some; make sure you allow flash and java scripts to run. Don’t worry! This is a very “clean” site (see our Privacy Policy for more information.)
